Short answer: if your project involves new circuits, a new consumer unit, or more than a couple of new sockets, electrical drawings are worth it. They turn vague instructions into an exact plan — so quotes are comparable, nothing is forgotten, and your building regulations paperwork is smoother.
Who this is for
- Self-builders — full electrical layouts for your new home, from incomer to every socket, ready for your electrician and your building control submission.
- Extensions & renovations — kitchen extensions, knock-throughs and whole-house refurbishments where the existing wiring needs rethinking.
- Loft conversions — compact, efficient layouts for new bedrooms and bathrooms, including lighting and smoke/heat alarm positions.
- EV & solar projects — dedicated EV charger layouts and solar PV + battery storage layouts for homes adding new technology.
Whatever the project, our Manchester electrical drawing service is built around homeowners: plain-English explanations, no jargon unless you want it, and drawings your electrician will actually thank you for.
What you get
Electrical layout drawings
Socket, switch, lighting and appliance positions on scaled floor plans — the core drawing every project needs.
Lighting design drawings
Downlight layouts, switching arrangements and garden lighting, so rooms end up lit the way you imagined.
Consumer unit schedules
A clear schedule of every circuit in your fuse board — useful for board changes and future fault-finding.
Why homeowners get drawings done
Comparable quotes
Three electricians quoting from the same drawing give you three comparable prices. Three electricians quoting from a verbal description give you three different guesses. Drawings put you in control of the tender.
Fewer expensive changes on site
Moving a socket after first fix costs real money. Deciding positions on paper — while you can still see the furniture layout — is far cheaper than deciding with a drill in the wall.
Smoother building regulations paperwork
Architects commonly include electrical layouts in building regulations drawing packages, and your electrician's Part P notification goes more smoothly when the design was thought through up front.
A record for the future
Keep the PDFs with your house documents. When you sell, extend again, or call an electrician in five years, an as-fitted drawing of what was actually installed saves everyone time.
What we need from you
You do not need to be technical. To prepare a quote we need:
- A floor plan, architect's drawing, or a hand-drawn sketch with measurements
- A note of what you want where — sockets, lights, appliances, EV charger, anything specific
- Photos of the existing consumer unit and the rooms involved (helpful but optional)
Send it through the contact page and we will reply with a free fixed quote. Illustrative samples of our drawing style are available if you want to see what you will receive.
Homeowner questions, answered
Do I need an architect before getting electrical drawings?
No. If you have an architect's plans we work from those, but a clear hand-drawn sketch with measurements is enough to start. Many of our homeowner projects begin with nothing more than a sketch and a list of requirements.
Will my electrician work from your drawings?
Yes — that is exactly what they are for. Our drawings use standard UK symbols and terminology, show socket, switch, lighting and consumer unit positions, and are delivered as print-ready PDFs your electrician can take straight to site.
How much do electrical drawings cost for a typical extension?
It depends on the size of the project, the number of drawings and how complete your starting plans are. We work on a free fixed-quote basis: send your plans or sketches and we confirm the price before any work begins. See our pricing page for what affects the cost.
What if my plans change after the drawings are done?
Plans change — that is normal. Because we supply editable DWG files as well as PDFs, your architect or electrician can mark drawings up. If you need us to revise the drawings, send the changes and we will quote for the revision work.
Please note
We provide design and drafting services only. Installation, testing and certification of electrical work must be carried out by a registered electrician in accordance with Part P of the Building Regulations.
