Why it matters
Why Manchester projects need proper electrical drawings
The problem with “the electrician will sort it on site”
Across Greater Manchester — from Victorian terraces in Salford and Oldham to new apartments around Salford Quays — we see the same issues: quotes that cannot be compared because every electrician assumed something different, sockets in the wrong place once furniture arrives, and missing paperwork when a property is sold or let. A proper electrical layout drawing removes the guesswork before a single cable is run.
Drawings your architect and building control understand
Architects putting together building regulations packages routinely need electrical layouts, and as-fitted drawings are increasingly expected at handover — particularly for rental properties and small commercial units. Our drawings use standard UK symbols and terminology, so they slot straight into professional drawing sets.
New technology needs new drawings
EV chargers, solar PV and home battery storage all change how a domestic installation is designed — dedicated circuits, isolator positions, and bidirectional power flow all need to be shown clearly. The latest wiring regulations even added a dedicated chapter for battery storage. Our EV charger layouts and solar PV + battery layouts are drawn with these current requirements in mind.
A specialist, not a generic CAD shop
We do one thing: electrical drawings. Because the studio is led by an electrical engineer, your drawings reflect how installations are actually wired, protected and certified in the UK — not just lines on a plan. Read more about how we work, or look at illustrative samples of our drawing style.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do I need electrical drawings for my extension?
For most extensions and renovations, yes — they pay for themselves. Electrical layout drawings show your electrician exactly where sockets, switches, lighting and the consumer unit go, so quotes are accurate and nothing is left to guesswork on site. Architects also commonly need electrical layouts as part of building regulations drawing packages.
Are your drawings accepted for building regulations submissions?
Our drawings are prepared to BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 and are commonly used to support building regulations submissions and architect drawing packages. Final responsibility for the safety and compliance of the installed work always sits with the installing electrician under Part P of the Building Regulations.
Do you carry out electrical installation work as well?
No. Electrical Drawings UK is a design and drafting service only. We produce the drawings; installation, testing and certification must be carried out by a registered electrician. We never claim installer accreditation.
What do you need from me to start my drawings?
A floor plan or even a hand-drawn sketch with measurements, plus a note of what you want where — sockets, lighting, appliances, EV charger or solar plans. Photos of the existing consumer unit and rooms help. Send it all through our contact page for a free fixed quote.
What format will I receive my drawings in?
You receive print-ready PDF drawings as standard, plus editable DWG (AutoCAD) files on request — useful if your architect or electrician wants to mark them up.
What is the difference between your drawings and an EICR?
An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) is a test-and-inspection report on an existing installation, carried out on site by an electrician. Our drawings are design documents showing planned or as-fitted layouts. They are different services: we draw, electricians inspect and certify.
An honest note about what we do
Electrical Drawings UK provides design and drafting services only. We do not carry out electrical installation, testing or certification, and we do not claim membership of any installer accreditation scheme. Installation, inspection, testing and certification of electrical work must be carried out by a registered electrician in accordance with Part P of the Building Regulations.
